The school
has a commitment to providing first class ICT
facilities for its students.
In June 1998 our
patron, HRH the Duchess of Gloucester, opened
the new Communications and Sixth Form
Study Centre. When they enter school, 4th form
boys embark upon a three year programme covering
word-processing, databases, spreadsheets,
graphic design and desktop publishing and they
are examined in all five of these elements. They
quickly develop proficiency with these
facilities and use o level subject in the sixth
form.
ICT
is used in all departments in the school without
exception. For example, geographers are able to
down load information from weather satellites,
artists use graphic design facilities, musicians
use keyboards linked to computers for editing and
arranging their own compositions and scientists
use software for data recording whilst their
experiments are in progress. One of the ICT rooms
is equipped for use as a virtual language
laboratory. The schools outstanding facilities
greatly enhance the quality of learning throughout
St John's.
The school network has been designed to run at the
highest specification. Each machine has a high
resolution 17" monitor with high quality
multi-media facilities. Individual e-mail
addresses are assigned to every student. Likewise,
excellent teaching and learning use is made of the
Internet.
The computers are available to the students
throughout the day as well as during evening prep
time and the ICT staff are readily available to
assist and rectify any problems that may occur.
The school's ICT provision is being constantly
upgraded to keep it at the forefront of modern
technology.
